Disco Blaze - Jump Back! (1975 NIG)

Dificil encontrar información mas o menos completa de este disco y sus intérpretes, excepto su procedencia, Nigeria, sus nombres, y casi nada mas, ni bien bien el año en el que fue grabado, y se da como fecha probable, a mediados de los 70s, así que todos suelen hablar de 1975. Muy pocas copias circulan de este álbum, y se dice que en el año 2008, se vendió un ejemplar en Ebay por 800 dólares, pero también se sabe que en el 2010 una casa de discos, especialista en reediciones, lo puso a la venta. De esa manera, es como a mí, accidentalmente, me llegó una carpeta, la funda que contenía el vinilo, pero sin vinilo, y menos mal, que con paciencia y tiempo, he podido hacerme con el audio, con sonido que indica que procede de ripeo de vinilo, pero perfecto sonido, y en wav, sin pérdida......
Los músicos parece son de una ciudad del oeste de Nigeria, llamada Ibadan, de donde también proceden la cantante Sade, y el músico Tunde Nightingale.
Pero vayamos al disco y la música contenida.
El estilo es marcadamente "Funk", aunque deja notar la impronta afro-rock, con guitarras hipnóticas, bajo pesado, plomizo, percusión justa, efectos wah wah, fuzz, casi siempre instrumental, aunque en alguna canción hay, incluso, una voz femenina, cantando en inglés. Como va a ser dificil, conseguir una copia, mejor te aprovechas de la labor de los blogs, como el nuestro, y lo escuchas.

Conoci a Fela decasualidad, cuando Ginger Baker grabo en 1971 el disco "Fela Ransome-Kuti &Africa'70 With Ginger Baker", la musica de aquel disco me cautivo de alguna manera, asi que investigando un poco pude profundizar y seguir a traves de los años a este gran musico ( por desgracia ya fallecido ) hacedor como madis, de lo que yo denomino "Jazz Minimalista"

"Fela and Afrika 70-Sorrow Tears and Blood-1977 Nigeria":
Born in Abeokuta, Nigeria, north of Lagos in 1938, Fela's family was firmly middle class as well as politically active. His father was a pastor (and talented pianist), his mother active in the anti-colonial, anti-military, Nigerian home rule movement. So at an early age, Fela experienced politics and music in a seamless combination.
"Sorrow Tears and Blood" accurately depicts the trail left in the wake of the February 18, 1977, raid by 1,000 armed Nigerian army men on Fela Kuti and his Kalakuta republic. In keeping with the format upheld on a majority of Kuti's long-players, this disc contains a pair of extended works, featuring one title per LP side. In contrast to the hard-edged and aggressive Afro-funk that Kuti and his Africa 70 became synonymous with, both the A-side title track and B-side, "Colonial Mentality," are seemingly staid, in light or perhaps because of the cruel statesponsored attacks that he and his extended family suffered.
"Sorrow Tears and Blood" is neither a full-blown, up-tempo funk drone nor a somber dirge. The even-handed, mid-tempo groove trots along at a steady pace and features some comparatively sedate sax work from Kuti.
His lyrics are starkly direct: "Everybody run, run, run/Everybody scatter, scatter/Some people lost some bread/Some people just die". Perhaps this is the result of fear, shellshock, or a combination of the two. Kuti's words, however, remain as indicting as ever: "Them leave sorrow, tears, and blood/Them regular trademark."
It's almost impossible to overstate the impact and importance of Fela Anikulapo (Ransome) Kuti (or just Fela as he's more commonly known) to the global musical village: producer, arranger, musician, political radical, outlaw. He was all that, as well as showman, inventor of Afro-beat, an unredeemable sexist, and a moody megalomaniac. His death on August 3, 1997 of complications from AIDS deeply affected musicians and fans internationally, as a musical and sociopolitical voice on a par with Bob Marley was silenced.

This compilation is a fine introduction to an artist who is the missing link between John Coltrane, James Brown, Can and The Talking Heads. Excellent booklet and some of the most out there, plainly mental music I have ever heard. Felas keyboards rock in all the wrong places at exactly the right time.

3 CD compilation for the late producer, arranger, musician, arranger, musician, political radical, outlaw. 16 tracks, beginning with 'My Lady Frustration' (1969) and ending with 'Beast Of No Nation (part 2)' (1989). Packaged in a book like folder which measures 10 x 6 inches approx.. 1999 release. Newly remastered, includes 36 page booklet with extensive liner notes and rare photos.

Born Fela Ransome Kuti on October 15, 1938 in Abeokuta, Nigeria, he lived the life of a revered musician, political activist and dissenter. Fela was the bane of every Nigerian dictatorship and military regime that successively took power during his lifetime (His home was twice ransacked and once burnt down by military thugs, and Kuti spent 2 years in prison on fraudulent charges.). This antagonism provided much if not all of the material for Kuti's unique artistry.

By the end of his life, Kuti had become a symbol of Nigeria's (and African) struggle against colonial oppression, rule and influence. His battle ended on August 2, 1997 when Fela Anikulapo Kuti succumbed to complications caused by the AIDS virus in Lagos, Nigeria. But the music lives on. This collection captures many of Fela Kuti's classic musical moments. Silenced by death, Fela's legacy, which spanned more than 35 years, eventually burgeoned into a sizeable, impressive catalog.

The Funkees originated as an army band after the civil war, and by the time they relocated to London in 1972, they looked to be the group that was closest to achieving the dream of becoming "the next Osibisa." Unfortunately, after just two LPs and a couple of 45s, the band broke up in 1977. Most of the members--Jake Sollo, Harry Mosco, Mohammed Ahidjo, Chyke Madu and Sonny Akpan--remained active in the London music scene, doing session work, recording their own albums aimed at the Nigerian market at home and abroad, and supporting visiting Nigerian artists.

The Funkees were one of the most internationally successful bands to emerge from the 1970s musical explosion in Nigeria.

Fusing their own indigenous rhythms and language with R&B arrangements, they were heard everywhere including at huge live shows with Pink Floyd and Earth, Wind and Fire.

Este fue su primer disco y está a 256 kb de bitrate. Encontrado en algún recoveco de la WWW hace tiempo y fue incluido en un abandonado blog que algún día resurgira de sus cenizas.

Cuando escuché este disco por primera vez quede atrapado. Que yo sepa su discografia consta de cuatro titulos.

Se disolvieron en 1977.
